Cork flooring is one of the most beautiful and comfortable floor material options available
Whether you are building your bathroom from scratch or are remodeling the one you already have, bathroom cork flooring is a viable alternative to more conventional bathroom flooring materials such as vinyl, ceramic, or carpet.
If you though cork was simply limited to something that was hung on a wall so that notes can be tacked onto it or it was nothing more than a wine bottle topper, think again. This innovative material is becoming an increasingly popular choice for professional home designers and amateur homeowners turned home renovators who want to be able to be environmentally conscious while maintaining the aesthetic and practical aspects.
Going with cork instead of the usual suspects allows you to truly have a fairly more unique look and feel to your bathroom and provides you with the kind of sanctuary that you need and want. Aside from bamboo, cork is now considered a highly desirable material for flooring because of its being earth-friendly and the ease involved in the installation process. Because of the growing number of orders and requests for this particular kind of flooring material, more and more traditional suppliers have included it in their inventory and it can also be found among suppliers who specifically carry "green" materials, thus making it easy to find and purchase.
Bathroom cork flooring provides warmth, making it highly desirable in that particular area of your home, especially during the colder months of the year. The material itself is actually softer compared to other wood materials in the market and this adds on to the appeal of using it in the bathroom since the warm and soft feel of the cork is a combination that may not always be found in hardwood, glass, or concrete. While carpeting may also provide warmth and is actually plusher than cork, it is also difficult to maintain and keep clean, the opposite of cork floors.

If you have already made up your mind to go with cork as the material for your bathroom floor, be aware that, just like with other materials, not every cork tile or cork plank is the same. There may be differences in color and tone within a pack of tiles or planks so do not be surprised once you have unpacked them all and notice that they may not all be exactly the same. You can always ask your supplier of choice if they will be willing to exchange any tiles or planks that you may not be satisfied with.
It is important to remember that there are two types of corking floors is available. The floating, which has an acrylic finish and is not suitable for bathrooms and stick down type of cork tile which has around 4 coats of polyurethane applied to it, with a final coat being applied once the tiles are laid. That means that joins are sealed. This type of tile is resistant to moisture and is completely water proof, so is ideal in bathrooms.
Another thing to take note of with bathroom cork flooring is whether the tiles or planks you are about to purchase have already been pre-finished with coating or if they need to be finished once they have been installed. Either way, you may want to consider adding an extra layer of coating just to make sure that the cork material is protected and sealed properly. Over time, you can choose to go ahead and simply re-coat your floor, saving you valuable time, effort, and money.
Cork is resistant to chemicals, but not to the abrasive ones.It is not slippery, and easy to care - the floor can be vacuumed and washed with a cloth, however the mopping should be avoided.
Cork is elastic, anti-static, and does a fair job of insulating noise and heat.
Being a natural material, cork coating may slightly expand due to changes in temperature and humidity. This fact should be taken into consideration and leave a gap along the walls of at least 10 mm, which will subsequently be closed by baseboard.
